Stay Sexy & Don't Get Murdered: The Definitive How-To Guide by Georgia Hardstark, Karen Kilgariff

5.0

I tried to listen to their podcast but I couldn’t get past one episode. It wasn’t because it isn’t good or because they aren’t great podcasters; I just can’t listen to details about horrific murders. True crime is a wildly popular genre these days, especially among women, and dozens of think pieces have been written trying to understand why. I get it. It’s just not my jam.

But this book is. I listened to the audio and I loved it. The two authors are Gen Xers like me, and since my generation is a Baby Bust between two booms (the Boomers and Millennials), there just aren’t that many of us out there taking up space on the cultural landscape. It’s a dueling memoir, two women telling their stories of growing up latchkey kids in the ‘70s and ‘80s. It’s feminist and real and vulnerable, like all the best memoirs are. I loved it.
