A Christmas Day at the Office by Matt Dunn

3.0

Tonight is the office Christmas party but that is the last thing on everyone’s mind. Before the festivities begin there are love lives to sort and jobs to save.

Julie is feeling sick before the heavy drinking has even started.

Mark is in for a surprise and it’s not his Secret Santa gift.

Calum needs some dutch courage but a meal at Old Amsterdam ain’t it.

Nathan receives a Christmas greeting but hopes it is a mistake.

Sophie wants the new boss to unwrap her as his Christmas present.

With this much going on during the day will any employees actually make it to the night?!

This is the first book I have read with a Christmas office party and was looking forward to reading it, because I knew there would be plenty going on and I was not wrong. In fact there was so much drama before the party even began that I nearly forgot the main event had not happened yet. It was not until I was half way through that I spotted on Amazon that there was a book before this one. But reading it I did not think you would know at all that this was a second book which is great as you could read it as a standalone or if you really love this one you can go back to see how it all began.

An office is the perfect place for an interwoven story and with this book you feel like you are a fly on the wall privy to information each character does not want shared. Everyone was preoccupied with something or other and very little if any work was getting done. Rather than a buzz of excitement about Christmas everyone’s relationship and job worries threatened to cast a shadow over the whole proceedings.

My favourite character was Calum as I watched him bumble through the day desperate to change his life for the better in more ways than one. He was the one I really hoped Christmas would come good for and would love to hear more about him in any potential sequels. The only way this book lost marks for me was I thought Nathan’s story was one storyline too far and would rather have spent more time following the others instead. Also I was not keen on the new boss Tony A Wood - he was a very cliched American boss which I could see coming a mile away (quite literally in his blinding white dinner suit)

A Christmas Day at the Office blends drama and romance with a splash of real life for an enjoyable read which will make you instantly forget any past mistakes you may have made at office parties.
