This is my favorite book I've read so far this year. It is one of those books that feels like it was written just for me. I loved these characters and the respectful relationship they slowly grew into. They had such wonderful chemistry that I was just kicking my feet whenever they were together. It was so refreshing to see Cae be such a good partner for Velasin while he was recovering from SA. In a sea of ultra tall alpha shadow daddies, I will take Cae any day.
As a political fantasy enjoyer, I was absolutely eating up the plot and the intrigue. The writing sucked me in and propelled me through all 500+ pages like they were nothing. If I have any complaints, I do think the ending was a little rushed. And I would have benefitted from a dramatis personae. But all things considered, this book was just the perfect mix of romance and political intrigue for me. If you're okay with the TWs (take them seriously!) then I highly recommend giving this a chance. I'll definitely be reading the sequel soon.
