Agatha Raisin and the Wellspring of Death by M.C. Beaton
5.0
Agatha Raisin is called in to help her old publicity firm to assist a new water company and their bid to buy water from a local spring in Ancombe and market it for sale. The town of Ancombe is in uproar that their spring is going to be used for capitalism, with everyone on the parish council taking sides. When the chairman of the parish council turns up dead, it would seem that he has been killed for the way he would vote (either for or against, no one knows). Agatha decides to investigate and to save the water company on bad publicity.
I love the Agatha Raisin novels. They are the epitome of English cozy mysteries: parish councils, nosy neighbours, and lots of secrets! Agatha Raisin is as usual trying to save the day, get back together with her neighbour, James, and this time get back into the act of publicity.
I love Agatha but how I detest that James Lacey. It seems that he doesn't want Agatha anymore and doesn't want anyone else to have her either. So when Agatha begins an affair with a younger man you can tell he's going to have something to say about it!
With murders and town gossip aplenty, this was another great instalment in the Agatha Raisin mysteries. It was a great mystery and there was plenty of gossip within Carsely and Ancombe to feed my love of English villages!
I love this series and I can't wait for the next one.
