Uzumaki by Junji Ito
5.0
I started this over a year ago and I’m so glad that I took so long to finish it. These tales read like spoken folklore and it’s only right that I enjoyed them as bedtime stories every month or two—the wind is howling outside of my window as I type this, WOW (!!!). In fact, I’m not sure it’d work as well all at once or at least over the course of a week or two. After all, most manga is serialized weekly, making an anthology-ish series like this perfect for little doses of terror throughout the year. The way Junji Ito paced this story is remarkable—each installment delivers a bit more each time and by the end it felt like a perfect finale after so much build. Ugh! What a masterpiece.
