City of Bones, by Cassandra Clare

3.0

5/10 Even though I found many things to dislike about this book it had me hooked the whole way through. It was almost 500 pages of not especially well-written twists and action scenes yet it inexplicably kept my mind off of the length. I don't usually care for love triangles and this book had several, not kidding, several. I judge Y/A a little more harshly when it comes to language (some) and blood and gore (chock full) but it was entertaining enough to let that slide (for me, not for my teenagers when I have them). I also found the constant sarcastic tone a little grating at first, but either it let up as the book went on or I grew used to it. There was a BIG twist at the end that I didn't care for but I'd be lying if I said I hadn't seen it coming and I'm sure I'll grow accustomed to it. Even though I'm giving this a middle of the road rating I'm still hooked, as previously stated, and will probably continue on with the series. That is, as soon as I've waded through the bagillion books that came into the library all at once due to neglecting my hold/suspension list- oops!
