Wow Garcia’s writing is beautiful, and I’m excited to read more from this new author! The book was lyrical but readable - she hit a fantastic balance throughout the novel. It was an easily digestible intergenerational novel that packed a punch. I’m super invested in learning more about the history of Cuba and its relations with the US and capitalism after this novel. Garcia had some amazing quotes in this one that made my jaw drop.
My only critique is the latter half of the novel doesn’t pack as much of a punch as the beginning. The first chapter was INCREDIBLE and I couldn’t get enough.
I’m not sure why this book is rated so low??? I’m not one for short novels, but this one hit right.
