Fury Rising by Jeyn Roberts

4.0

This series is incredibly character-driven, so that’s pretty much how my review will be. First off: Clementine. She became annoying and pitiful. In the first two books, I didn’t mind her much at all. I find her to be rootable. In this book, however, her MO was victimhood and living the “woe is me” lifestyle. It became REMARKABLY grating by the end of the story. She did grow a bit and began to take more charge in her life, but god it was a terrible journey getting there. I was excited for Clementine finding her brother FINALLY at the end of the story. And by that, I mean on the very last page. I would have been LIVID if that whole conflict went unresolved.

With Daniel’s storyline, I really enjoyed his whole storyline of fighting the darkness — and losing for a brief time — to help save Aries and Mason. I particularly liked his bromance with Mason! It was endearingly adorable for two pretty heteronormative men to bond so tightly. Also, I really like that he ended up surviving the massive explosion and ended up doing his own thing. That was exciting and felt natural for him.

One of the things that kind of disappointed me in this book was the lack of graphic violence that existed in the first two books. There were still a lot of fights, but they weren’t nearly as descriptive, which made it harder for me to visualize. I honestly expected a full out war based on the synopsis, but there was really only like ONE battle scene in the whole book, which was definitely a letdown.
