An Unseen Attraction by KJ Charles
emotional
mysterious
medium-paced
3.0
This is described as a slow-burn in the blurb but the main characters have expressed their attraction and kissed by the 10% mark and the first sex scene is around 20%... that’s not slow-burn to me! That’s way faster than average!
Between the characters getting together so early and Clem’s reluctance to delve further into the mystery in the first half, the story does lack some momentum. It picks up a little in the second half but it took me a long time to read this for so few pages.
Still, Clem and Rowley made a very cute couple and I enjoyed how quiet their relationship was, and how appreciative they were of each other. They were both very intriguing characters; Clem who is coded as autistic and of Indian heritage, and Rowley who is a short and skinny taxidermist. I like how KJ Charles tends to write characters outside of the usual you tend to find in romance. The mystery was quite interesting once it got going, if predictable.
