This book first caught my eye for 2 reasons:
- The cover art was illustrated by Leni Kauffman, and historically, I love books with her art LOL
- The FMC looks like someone I work with - like, scarily so. Just replace the combat boots with red heels and erase the thigh tattoo, and it's my coworker, truly.
ANYWAYS. This was my first time reading a book by Ava Hunter and I could not put it down! At first glance, it seems like a standard black cat x golden retriever romance, but it was SO MUCH MORE.
Don't get me wrong, Ash Keller is ABSOLUTELY a black cat FMC, hands down. But she is also sassy, a total badass, and a secret softie for the ones she loves.
Nathaniel Whitford, though, while he looks like a golden retriever, is actually pretty grouchy and unpleasant, too! But, once he starts to care for Ash, that hard exterior softens and he turns into a protective and attentive guy who is absolutely FERAL for Ash.
The banter between the two of them is absolutely off-the-charts, and the way they both love and care for Augustus (Nathaniel's grandfather and the true MVP of the story) is so sweet.
