I really didn’t enjoy this book as much as the first novel in the series. The writing was pretty predictable and at times seemed lazy. Especially the ending, where I feel like the author was going for some sort of dark, sacrificial twist designed to shock the audience, but in reality was a big snore. Maybe I just didn’t feel anything because I felt zero connection to the new characters introduced in this novel, particularly the women. If I’ve said it once I’ve said it a thousand times, THIS AUTHOR IS TERRIBLE AT WRITING WOMEN! At least Beverly and Leslie had a little spunk! Simone was so bland and stereotypical. Also the protagonist Peter showed no character growth at all.

Overall the plot sounds ridiculous but it was the one element of the book I actually quite enjoyed. For me it was the character development that really let this book down. Good writing should make me either hate them or love them. But everything about this novel was just vanilla.
