Unfortunately, the current situation drives us to gain knowledge about things we don’t really want to have to think about.
As you’d expect, this is a difficult read, it is informative but as with any subject as you learn more about something the more you realise you don’t know. The detail in the book did loose me a bit, kept feeling I needed to have a map in front of me as I tried to grasp what was going on.
The overwhelming thing I got from this book, was what ethnic cleansing actually means on a practical front -eg forests planted on top of former villages so as to leave no mark - such destruction is hard to fathom.
I “enjoyed” the authors writing style, he’s an ex-pat Israeli historian based in the Uk and he’s written 15 books, but probably need to find other authors to see different perspectives.
