"TV suggested that humans ruled the planet, but scientific probes and scans suggested Earth beloged to cats. The furry little chonks looked finer and more intelligent to the Malortian eye than these mostly furless, gangly, puffy bipeds that strode around in funny costumes."

Just hilariously weird and oddly heartwarming - that's what comes to mind when I think about this book - what a freaking delight! This was such a unique take on life and perspective - and love, and grief, and the universe, and the human (or not human) experience. It took me a hot second in the beginning to keep the characters straight and to really connect with them, but once I did, I couldn't put it down. It's not suspenseful in a typical doomsday/invasion sense, instead it's a steady stroll through the adventure and meaning of family and existence. Also... sooo much fun cat schtuff - I mean I have yet to read a book that had this many fun references to cats (chonks, slonks, chonky boi, etc.) and it had me laughing out loud on multiple occasions. Enjoyed this one way mucho and won't be surprised to find it in my top picks of 2023.
