dark emotional reflective

4.5

An incredibly harrowing and emotional portrayal of the Gwangju Uprising, told from multiple viewpoints surrounding a murdered boy. The writing is poetic, incisive and breaktaking. At one point I had to pause for the night because of the intensity of the violence, but I'm glad the author doesn't shy away from the details. A must read for those interested in Korean history, but also fair warning for the violence.
