You Are Not Alone by Cariad Lloyd

emotional informative medium-paced

5.0

Being part of the DDC, having lost my own father as a young adult, this book really touched all the right nerves for me and was an emotional but informative read throughout.
The book journeys through Cariad's own turbulent emotions as she faces her father's death, and then the aftermath of it, and the influences it has on her life afterwards in a really rich but easily digestible way. She writes with both a humour and directness that I think only comes from going through something as traumatic as losing a parent before your brain has properly developed. The way it interweaves poignant quotes from guests on her podcast 'Griefcast', her own journey, and insights of knowledge around the grieving process is masterfully done and was both enjoyable and cathartic to read. This is the first book I have ever felt a need to take a pen to, highlighting areas that I felt a real pull or relatability to. I have also now passed this book onto both my mum and my sister to see if it can further help and inspire them.
If you've lost someone close to you, and are struggling with the grieving process, please give this book a try. It really shows that there is no wrong way to grieve and that the club is a lot bigger than you may think it is. You will be okay, as will we all, because we are not alone.
