Eternal Kiss of Darkness by Jeaniene Frost

5.0

This romance is part of the Night Huntress world, and is set after _Destined for an Early Grave_.

Mencheres is Bones' grandsire and is a significant character in the Night Huntress books. He is a very old (and very, very powerful) vampire and has gotten quite world-weary. An old enemy has been pursuing him and Mencheres is considering going gentle into that good night.

Kira Graceling is a Chicago PI. She stumbles into a horrific scene and decides to rescue the victim in the brutal assault. She winds up being the person who needs to be rescued (by Mencheres, the victim of the assault who had not been defending himself). And the story is on. There is forced proximity that leads to a very rapid relationship growth. And then Kira and Mencheres are framed by Mencheres' ancient enemy and they must clear his name.

The main story is Mencheres finding a will to live again, with his new relationship with Kira.

This was an excellent PNR. The depiction of life as a new vampire was quite well done, and the theme of love renewing the will to live was well explored. The sex scenes are hot. The scenes of danger had sufficient tension. Given how much power Mencheres has, the plot was cleverly constructed to force Mencheres to do more than simply run over the antagonist.

It was quite enjoyable.
