The Girl Who Fell Beneath the Sea, by Axie Oh

adventurous emotional hopeful

4.0

I felt Studio Ghibli vibes from the storytelling style and the general mood. This is inspired by a Korean folktale and Mina is a storyteller herself. She learned many stories from her dear grandmother who raised her. In order to help her family and the people in her land who are suffering from the neglect of the sea god, their protector, Mina offers herself as sacrifice to become the bride of the sea god. She goes to the spirit world and is determined to lift the curse that has been put on the god. It is a wondrous and dangerous world. There is magic, adventure, and a kind heart that comes through. I needed an escape, and this provided some.
