The Art of Gathering: How We Meet and Why It Matters by Priya Parker

4.0

I don't usually read non-fiction books, and I probably wouldn't have read this one if my book club hadn't chosen it. But I found myself buying into Priya Parker's ideas pretty much right away, and by the end I felt like I'd been given some genuinely helpful tools. I will say that at the end of the first chapter I was having a hard time imagining what more she could possibly say on this topic that she hadn't already covered in great detail, but despite seeming longer than necessary, every chapter ultimately proved worthwhile.

The timing was probably good for me- I'm intensely introverted and I rarely host anything outside of work, but lately I've been more interested in the idea of building community. If you're looking for ways to make sure your limited social energy packs a meaningful punch (either at work or in your personal life), this book seems essential. Although I listened to the audiobook, I'll probably end up getting the ebook version for easy reference and reminders the next time I'm trying to bring people together.
