This is the first novel I’ve read that acts as a comment on post-Communist society. It is bizarre and the personification of a pet penguin acts as a tangible metaphor for Victor’s mental health.
I loved reading this. It feels like a book that shouldn’t work as well as it does but somehow Andrey Kurkov gets it just right.
