The Ghost Variations: One Hundred Stories by Kevin Brockmeier

4.0

Really good dive into all different kinds of ghost stories. Each one is only two pages, and yes, the story is complete. The ghosts are not scary at all. There's 6 general themes, and even more deeper themes, which the author conveniently groups in the back.

I could see writing classes use these as explorations into a lengthier story, sort of like a longer version of Chris Van Allsburg's Harris Burdick images/prompts. Some are lovely, heartfelt. Some are very sad. There were a few that didn't work for me, but I am sure that goes for every reader, and the ones that don't work vary.
