If the timing is right, and it was for me in this case, I love love a MMC that falls first and falls hard. This book I remember enjoying long ago, but this reread made me fall in love.

David is just so ridiculous in how much he loves Charlotte but also tries to deny it because he doesn't want to get hurt. He's over the top but I love him for it. Young David and his insta love/attraction for Charlotte? Stinking adorable.

Charlotte is just great. I love how as an adult, she knows what she wants and she's not willing to compromise. She's a widow which allows her more freedom to be a woman and to not be forced into remarriage. Girl just wants to run her school and be loved and I love her the more for it.

This book comes in second in the series behind Lachlan and Venetia, which is just all around solid. Definitely a book I'll reread.
