After reading “The Family Upstairs,” I immediately went to the library to pick up the next book. While the first book was wrapped up pretty well, there was a bit of a cliffhanger with Phin at the end.

That was the hook that got me to read the next book and overall was let down by the end. There’s an extra POV character, Rachel, Lucy’s ex-husband’s new wife, who added little to the overall story. There’s an investigation after a body is found, but again has little impact. In fact, the book ends where the characters started off, with little growth, leaving me to wonder what the heck I just read.

The first 4/5 was decent, but the ending just took a nose dive that knocked it down to 2 stars.
