Rogues by George R.R. Martin, Gardner Dozois

4.0

Who doesn't love the rogue? The dashing scoundrel with the gleam in the eye and the hand on the treasure? And here we have quite the treasure; rogues of all shape, size, gender and alignment.

My favorite by far was the Rothfuss story of a day in the life of Bast, the innkeeper's mysterious friend who definitely is more than he seems. Also I discovered a new writer in Scott Lynch, who I shall definitely be reading again.

The Martin story sets up the infamous war of succession called "The Dance of Dragons," which is concluded in the Dangerous Women anthology. As with that story, this one is almost more a recitation of facts from a history tome than a story, but still quite interesting to read.
