Royal Bastard by Avery Flynn

This is a fun, lite hearted, quirky book, that I enjoyed reading. Nick is a brilliant, wealthy, sexy man with a chip on his shoulder regarding his parental history. Brooke is strong, smart, sassy, stubborn female who fears that she won’t be taken serious because of past relationship. The sparks fly between these two from the start, both sexually and in their banter. It was fun reading how these two put the other in their place.

The writing is easy to read, and the story is fun. The side characters added something to the story. Flynn did a really good job of including both the estate and the village in the story, they were treated like characters adding spice to the story. They also were used to show characteristics within each of the main characters.

While Nick’s paternal side was covered in the story, I wish that it had been done more in depth. While I really enjoyed this story, for me it felt like something was missing, or left incomplete and I think it was that.

I recommend this story to anyone who is looking for a story with strong characters and not a lot of angst. There are problems both real and imagined for these characters, but that’s about it. It’s one of those fun summer reads that will having you smiling by the end (I loved Nick’s romantic gesture).

I listened to this book on audio. The narrator did a good job of changing his voice when speaking for other characters so that it was easy to distinguish. He was easy to follow and understand.
