No Man's Land by David Baldacci

3.0

I found myself rather disinterested while reading this book. I like the MC, John Puller, well enough. But the plot seemed a bit mundane. Maybe that's because it wasn't a "save the world" scenario, but rather a small-scale story involving the fate of Puller's mother 30 years earlier.

Puller's relationship with Veronica Knox in this book seemed stuck in neutral. She helped some with the case but didn't perform any great heroics. They flirted with making their relationship more serious, but nothing came of her advances or his reluctance to make any sort of commitment.

The antagonist, Claire Jericho, seemed too matter-of-fact ruthless and had no real motivation for what she was doing other than sort of a business-as-usual approach to doing business within the US Department of Defense.

Puller fans will want to read this book, but those looking for a book of Baldacci's to start with will be better off with one of the Camel Club series, the first Will Robie book, or one of Baldacci's first books.
