Enna Burning, by Shannon Hale

5.0

I loved Enna Burning. It is very different from the Goose Girl, but still fit perfectly in the same world. Enna is much less passive than Isi, but she also does not have the external continuous threat of death to hide her identity. I mean, she kind of does, but the circumstances are different. I loved Enna's character arc, and Isi also has a character arc for good measure.

The plotline of the war was really will done. Enna's relationship with Captain Sileph was one of the creepiest and most seductive relationships I've read. It was very off-putting but had an appeal to it that made it believable. Really, really interesting and played into the themes and Enna's arc really well. Sileph is very memorable. I liked the supporting characters as well, especially Finn.

I really like how this book continued the story from the Goose Girl. It really did expand the world and the stakes and was not a retread of the first story. So good!
