I'm writing this review right after I've finished the book because my college brain will make me forget every word of the book if I don't do it right now. That is to say that this might be a mumbo jumbo love fest, but it is how I feel about the book.
Five stars. No question. It was such an incredible follow-up to The Ones We Fight For. We were drawn in to love the Hartrick clan in TOWFF, and they came back in full force with more reasons to love them in The Ones We Hate.
Katie has a two-for-two streak of making me feel seen in at least one of her characters in the book. So much of Piper reminds me of myself and I admire the growth she has tremendously. Asking for help is not a weakness and I'm proud of her for learning this.
Leo. Leo Leo Leo. Leo goes through so. much. In this book. But you learn that his assholishness is (mostly) warranted. And he learns that it is okay to let people in.
I don't even know if this review is doing the book justice, because it doesn't feel like it is. But this book is just a delight. You might feel every emotion but it's absolutely worth it.
Thank you to Katie for allowing me to beta read and for sending me an ARC. You can find The Ones We Hate on KU now!
