Jesus I loved this. I love Nora's writing. The way she combined the down-home cozy feel of a small southern town with the absolutely chilling horrific darkness that exists in some people.

I love that these books aren't just straight rom-com types with a cliche inverted check-mark plot and predictable 3rd act breakup before a happily ever after. That there's heavy topics and a strong plot that's front and center.

I love that the whole first part (which was difficult for me to get through because of the darker topics) focused on Zane and his sister's childhood. I love that the idyllic is juxtaposed with the deeply problematic. And I love that the characters all show resolve and perseverance.

It's true the mystery isn't all that shocking, and that the romance isn't going to win any prizes for it's uniqueness or it's depth. But it was enough, altogether, to make a great story.

Trigger warnings: domestic violence, child abuse, murder, stalking, kidnapping
