 The book led with Mattie and Emma, and so I initially expected this to be their story, but it's really a story of all of these families bound together by magic, romance, and the racing team. The magic slots into the historical context so well, and I love how all of the relationships are shown.

(Also the epilogue showing what happens over the next several decades is great.)
