Chloe Cates is Missing by Mandy McHugh, Amanda McHugh

3.0

This debut thriller was a quick read!

“CC and Me” is Jennifer’s hit YouTube sensation that chronicles her adventures with her daughter Chloe Cates. The problem is that Chloe doesn’t want to be in the spotlight anymore. She wants to go to school, have friends and go by her real name Abigail. Jennifer won’t listen: and then Abigail goes missing. Detective Emiliana is assigned the case but she has a past with Jennifer and knows what she is capable of. Can she find Abigail and bring her home?

This book alternates perspectives between Jennifer, her husband, her son, Emiliana, and snippets from Abigail’s diary. This makes the book an exciting page turner, keeping the reader on edge. I finished this in two sittings but unfortunately I saw a few of the plot twists coming which is why it lost a few stars for me.

Jennifer is a horrible Mother and person which will make this a tough read for some. I felt like this book was a watered down version of the Influencer Thriller “People Like Her” that came out earlier this year. It was hard not to compare the two when PLH did this angle much better.

This was an okay thriller but ultimately forgettable.
