This is an example of a book with characters that I did not relate to whatsoever, however the time period and overall concept was unique to me and kept me interested the entire way through. I am a sucker for 18th century-based historical fiction novels, especially those with ties to England! It was adventurous and fun to read about how people in different parts of the world (England and China) lived, ate, and socialized during that time. This wasn't fast paced, but it was a fun adventure and I of course enjoyed the romance as the story progressed.
