Beartown by Fredrik Backman

5.0

Being a parent makes you feel like a blanket that’s always too small. No matter how hard you try to cover everyone, there’s always someone who’s freezing.

I mean at this point there is no need for me to give a synopsis of this book as I am the last person to read it.
However, to keep it brief - Beartown is a small town which centres around the junior hockey team. With some promising stars on the team, they are doing better than they have ever done before.
When something happens, the close knit community and the hockey team all fall apart. The excitement is lost and now cracks will appear.

I could have used so many quotes in my review and as a mum so many hit me hard. Backman's writing and character development is absolutely beautiful and despite the cast of characters being quite large, I felt I knew each of them well. I will definitely be continuing the series and am ready to have my heart broken all over again.

I felt all of the emotions reading this book and I as so angry at some of the things that happened. When I wasn't reading the book I was reflecting on and it trying to view things from different perspectives.

Try this if you like:
- character rather than plot heavy books
- Discussions about morality, parenthood, right and wrong
- A large cast of characters
- strong character development
- small town setting
- ice hockey
