My Brilliant Friend by Elena Ferrante
4.0
I enjoyed the take on the lives of intelligent teenage girls, and how they decide whether to pursue academic interests or give up on school. The parental expectations seemed somewhat dated, no surprise since the story is set in the 1950s and 60s, although maybe it was just different from those that I experienced. Well written and realistic, and unsentimental.
