The Summer Sisters by Sara Richardson

4.0

Dahlia, Magnolia and Rose are the Buchanan sisters and have recently inherited the Juniper Inn in Colorado. Dahlia and Rose have moved permanently to Juniper Springs and renovated the Inn during the spring.  Now set to re-open, a big celebration is planned.  Magnolia has recently delivered baby Luca and arrives just in time for the reopening and Sassy’s surprise birthday celebration.

Sassy has returned home early from an extended trip abroad after experiencing headaches and dizziness for the past several weeks.  With a family history of a brain tumour, she fears the worst. She decides to seek medical attention and determine a diagnosis before she needlessly worries the family.

Sassy’s older sister Lillian is mother to the Buchanan sisters.  A major disagreement has had these two women estranged for the past two decades.  When Lillian suddenly appears before the re-opening, the sisters decide a reconciliation of their mother and their aunt is long overdue.

Romance is abound in Juniper Springs and both the older generation and younger generation of sisters find love. But with any romance, it’s not always free of complications.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book.  Told from the perspectives of Rose, Dahlia and Sassy, there was plenty of storylines to keep me engaged.  The book flowed effortlessly with relatable, likeable characters.  The descriptions of the Inn and the property on which it stands set the scene for the tranquil read I was hoping for.

While some of the romances were carried on from the first book in the series, I was especially taken by the new love found by the older sisters.  Love and romance books that represent this age group are challenging to find, and I commend the author for this narrative. Moreover, it is such a pleasure to read a book with characters that respect as well as provide care and compassion to one another.  This truly reflects what a family is to me.  I look forward to reading about the Buchanan family in Book 3 of the series.
