I was so fascinated through this entire book. I couldn't stop reading. It was delightfully tense and the complexity of the characters was riveting. Despite the huge ensemble, none of them felt tropey or 1 dimensional so much as not explored as of yet. Not much happens in terms of plot in this book, but not in a lackluster way. It very much just felt like a precursor to everything, the "calm" before the storm. The character dynamics are explored in depth and there's a great amount of variety and nuance to them. I'm eager to know more.
Graphic: Child abuse, Death, Drug use, Mental illness, Violence, and Death of parent
Moderate: Body horror and Forced institutionalization
Minor: Homophobia
