This was a nice novella that beautifully complements the three main books in The Inheritance Trilogy. I really liked following Shill as she discovered what it means to be a godling in the human realm.
N. K. Jemisin really has a talent for writing distinct voices - you could clearly follow Shill's growth from the change in the narration of the first chapters (as a new-born, which got a bit cringy at times) to the last chapters (where the character is much more mature).
The tone is generally upbeat and funny, but there are still interesting topics addressed, like self-discovery and male-female stereotypes. The climax of the novella adds a new layer to the end of the trilogy that brings so much joy!
