The Firefly Dance by Phyllis Schieber, Kathryn Magendie, Sarah Addison Allen, Augusta Trobaugh

2.0

I REALLY wanted to like this book. Sarah Addison Allen is one of my go-to authors when I want to get lost in a world full of magical possibilities. I realize this book is not exactly the same premise, especially as it's written as an anthology with different authors, but I was hoping for something along the same lines. I felt that this book was a bit of a mess. I couldn't tell if the stories were supposed to be continuations of one another or be completely different stories. It seemed like some of the characters were the same, but they showed up in ways that seemed kind of forced to me. I also had a hard time reading a whole story written in NC mountain patois, and I'm from NC, so hearing people speak that way isn't new to me. Nonetheless, I found it distracting. Because of these things, I found myself just skimming pages to see if something would grab me before I got to the end of the book. Unfortunately, it didn't...

If you're looking for what you've come to expect from Sarah, I recommend you go back and re-read her previous books to hold you over until a new one comes out.
