Barefoot Season by Susan Mallery

5.0

I enjoyed another of Susan Mallery's books back in the fall (summer?), so when I found this in a little free library, I had a hunch it would be a good read. I actually enjoyed this book *more* than the other one I read ("The Friends We Keep"). I found the characters to be robustly written, their backstories doled out at just the right pace to help the reader link it to what was happening in the present. I feel like the title doesn't make sense--there's not a lot in the book that references bare feet, literally or symbolically, not enough to make it title-worthy, in my opinion. However, the novel itself is engaging, with enough drama/conflict to pique interest while still being a 'light' read, which I prefer in the 'dark' months of winter. This looks to be part of a series, I may have to find the next installment!
