This was a great mafia romance!
Emilia is a mafia princess who has been treated like crap by her whole family for most of her life. Her father agrees to an arranged marriage for her with an extremely ruthless mob boss. Emilia's father is using her to get information about Nico, her new husband, and his outfit. Emilia decided pretty early on that she won't betray her husband.
Nico agrees to the arranged marriage for the sole purpose of getting Emilia on his side, then rubbing it in Emila's fathers face, then getting rid of him. Emilia expects to trade one prison for another when he marries Nico. He vows to never physically hurt her but also vows to never love her. They had a hate-filled beginning of their marriage, and they only way they found solace was when they were intimate with each other.
Nico is immediately taken aback by Emilia. He expected her to be docile and submissive, but she was headstrong and brave. She was sick of being treated like a pawn and being treated like she didn't matter. Emilia told Nico exactly how she felt, and he grew to respect her. They came to an understanding and started to get to know each other to at least become civil.
The more they got to know each other, the more they thought their marriage could be more than just sex. Nico came to really care for Emilia, and she knew she loved him. Emilia's family has been trying to take down Nico for a while, and when Emilia's family kidnaps her, Nico knows its war.
Emilia has never known love and had never had anyone care about her until Nico. And Nico always thought be didn't have the capacity to love. Emilia is the calm to Nico's chaos and the soft to his hard. They are the perfect match, even though they didn't believe so, at first.
