Grandma Gatewood's Walk: The Inspiring Story of the Woman Who Saved the Appalachian Trail by Ben Montgomery
adventurous
inspiring
fast-paced
4.5
Sometimes the writing was hyperbolic, sometimes simplistic. But I loved the story of this woman.
Graphic: Domestic abuse
The mentions of domestic abuse are not gratuitous. They are matter-of-fact as part of the history of Emma Gatewood’s life. There is one spot where the author said that she could, “give as good as she got” and that really pissed me off at the author. But otherwise, the domestic abuse stuff didn’t make me as mad as it normally does, probably because it wasn’t dwelled on.
