I really don't think this is a 5 star read like everyone else hypes it up to be. While I was hooked with the concept early on and thought this was going to be epic, the middle fell extremely flat. The plot in 1940 seemed drawn out and unrealistically annoying at times. Also, it was super slow. But there were also the swoon-worthy moments. I absolutely hated how every chapter alternated timelines. It made it impossible to invest in any of the characters or enjoy both plots. I wish the author spent more consecutive chapters on each timeline. My rating would've definitely gone up. It's a shame because there was so much potential to feel deep and sad emotions throughout, but it just didn't happen for me. I enjoyed the present timeline a lot more and I wanted more storyline from it instead of so much fluff from 1940. The romance scenes were a good level of steam considering I wasn't really expecting much. The plot twist at the end is crazy. It definitely left me satisfied which was the saving grace for this rating/review thankfully.
