The Bloody Chamber and Other Stories by Angela Carter

2.0

Like a Sarah McLachlan song: you either feel swept away in Carter's overwrought prose and mood, or it all seems silly and over the top. I was expecting more of a twist on the tales themselves, too. These felt like retellings rather than reinventions. But I only could stomach the first three or four stories. Maybe they get wilder as they go on (but reading reviews here, I doubt it.)
