Billy Collins does not miss. I don’t think it’s possible for him to write a poetry collection that isn’t absolutely amazing. The only reason this isn’t a solid 5-star rating is because I put it into perspective with The Trouble With Poetry and Musical Tables, both of which are (in my opinion) just a little better than this one.

This collection felt just as raw and real as other things I’ve read by him, but with a hint of impending mortality. The theme of death is subtly pervasive throughout the collection (as are ducks, for some reason), but he plays with mortality and makes it something more than just death. Absolutely solid collection, please read Billy Collins if you haven’t, he’s one of the best poets of the modern age.
