So Much Things to Say: The Oral History of Bob Marley by Roger Steffens
4.0
I was drawn to read about Bob Marley because of his songs about liberation. There are more than a few biographies to choose from, so I had a hard time choosing one.
The format took me a little while to get used to, but it grew on me. I appreciate the way Steffens gives you multiple perspectives of the same event by direct quotes from the people involved. Steffens made the complicated work of moving a story forward from multiple vantage points easy, in my opinion. I was reminded how much with time and perspective people can experience and/or remember things differently.
The book helped me get context on when and why some of his most popular songs were written. It's also introduced a desire to listen to albums he and the Wailers released up to his death.
