A Walk to Remember by Nicholas Sparks

3.0

Nothing is better than reading your favorite Nicholas Sparks movie, am I right?

Even though I knew what happens in the book before reading it because I'm a huge Sparks movie enthusiast, I really liked reading A Walk to Remember and seeing where the basis of the movie came from. What a magical, wonderful, truly joyous love story.

Landon Carter is one of the bad boys around Beaufort, North Carolina. He likes doing dumb stuff with his friends, like any teenage boys would do. Jamie Sullivan is known around town as the reverend's daughter. She is one of the kindest, most generous people in town, believes heavily in God, and will do just about anything to help someone out.

Landon and Jamie have always been in the same classes (Beaufort is a small town) but they never have really known each other. That is until they are in the same drama class.

Beaufort puts on a Christmas play every year (written by Jamie's father, Hegbert) and Jamie is playing the lead. However, the town needs someone to play the role of Tom Thorton (the male main character) and Jamie decides to ask Landon because of their shared class. Landon accepts because he feels it is the right thing to do to make Jamie's father happy.

Landon never would have thought that he would fall in love with Jamie, but he did. It started with the play and grew more as the story moved on.

SpoilerMy favorite thing about this story is that it is simple. The sexual tension is seldom there because of how much Landon respects Jamie, and it is very powerful in this novel. It works completely well and it shows how special their relationship is, because they respect and care for each other very deeply. I love this aspect of the book so much.

All in all, this was a very quick read and I enjoyed it in its entirety. It is a content yet sorrowful read, but it is one that people would have a hard time putting down.
