When I started this book it was the exact opposite of what I expected. It starts off in a rainy city with a man in a dead-end job. I expected a story about magical children on a beautiful island. But I kept reading and soon I got sucked into the story. It was a different reading experience for me since I had never before read from the perspective of an older man, but I enjoyed it. As soon as we got to the Island I began not just enjoying this book but loving it. The children are all so unique, amazing and endearing. I really liked the writing style and how the author could make me truly like all characters, even children like Theodore who didn't speak a language we understand.
All in all I would absolutely recommend this book. It is way more than just a fun book about children on a beautiful island! (even though it is that as well)
