Finding Spring by Carin Berger

Bear is looking for spring, asking animals along the way where he can find it. I thought the story would continue on this path until the weather actually changed into spring. But Bear catches a snowflake and thinks that it's spring. He gathers a ball of snow and brings it to his cave, thinking he's captured spring. When he awakens months later, he finds that the snow is gone, but real spring has arrived. I liked that the story took a trajectory I wasn't expecting, but why didn't anyone explain to Bear the difference between winter and spring? That was a little baffling, but the lovely cut paper illustrations still make it an enjoyable read.
