The Forgotten Man Graphic Edition: A New History of the Great Depression by Chuck Dixon, Amity Shlaes, Paul Rivoche

4.0

I really, really wanted to love this experiment in serious history told in graphic format. Unfortunately, the editors of the original material misplayed their hand. There are too many scenes packed in the ~300 pages, each presented without sufficient context. The story leaps about in a confusing way. How much better if they had concentrated on a few key anecdotes as representative of the rest--the Schecter Brothers' supreme court case, for example.

Anyway, I give this book 4 stars but it really deserves 3.5 at the most. I'm feeling generous because I've heard Amity Shlaes speak and I'm an admirer.
