Haunting Adeline by H.D. Carlton

5.0

Three words I’d use to describe this book : What. The. Hell.

This was my first real attempt at Dark Romance (I’ve read some light Mafia romance before, and one book I really didn’t like and won’t name). There are so many things happening in this book, and I’m glad I can't relate to any of it because otherwise I would have been terrified of finishing it. In the three days it took me to read it, I was feeling obligated to read something lighter and just watch a youtube video because I was so scared at some moments. (And kids, that’s why i can’t watch horror movie but moving on)

Adeline is moving into her grandma’s mansion when she discovers that her great-grandma had a stalker that possibly killed her. The murder was unclassified due to the lack of evidences but when she finds old diaries, Addie learned that the weird man who stalked her great-grandma was actually her great-grandma’s lover. At the same time, Addie’s been herself harassed by someone. Her own stalker. and that’s when shit gets wild.

Be careful, spoilers underneath !

I won’t be talking about the trafficking, and raping, and killing. I’m still a little stunned that, even though this is fiction, this is all happening in some countries.

Zade is the perfect villain/hero I’ve ever read about. He’s bullying and stalking Addie for his own raison, but at the same time plays the vigilante à la Oliver Queens ? His morals are every greys in the spectrum, but in the end, he’s not doing some atrocious shit like other evil people in the book (or the world for that matter). I kinda like the wall stalker vibe, with all the rose, the cameras and the chasing. Although I was really sure he was going to kidnap her at some point ! I really think he loves Addie, in his own way.

The thing that shocked me the most was the gun part ? Between Zade and Addie ? This really messed me up, even more because its their first real ‘sexual interaction’ if i remember correctly !

Also, we don’t talk much about cliffhangers and dammit all to hell, I hate those so much !!! I started this book on the weekend so I finished it on a weekday ! During my lunch break ? So now I have to wait UNTIL TONIGHT to read the second book ?? Who enjoys those except the author ? I don’t understand !!
