Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear, by Elizabeth Gilbert

hopeful inspiring lighthearted fast-paced

5.0

This was my fifth time reading Big Magic! I think the audiobook version might be my favorite. Liz Gilbert gives off some seriously comforting & reassuring successful-big-sister-giving-advice vibes that always make me feel quite inspired.

This book does an excellent job at tearing apart a lot of common myths and fears that surround creativity. Gilbert uses anecdotes to encourage anyone looking to be more creative to remember the following:
• You don't have to be good at art to make it.
• Humans are innately creative.
• You're never too old to begin a creative pursuit.
• Fear will gladly run your life for you, don't give into it.
• Art doesn't have to be perfect to be shared with others.

One caveat: if you're at all weirded out by the idea of the creative process as a spiritual experience then do not read this book!
